Pride of Ownership

Those were the three words that I was given today.

He said, “Do you want a real challenge to level yourself up these next few months?”

I had no idea what was going to follow, but I’m always down for a challenge so I smirked and said “yes.”

Then he said, “Three words: Pride of Ownership.

I’m going to reflect on this to make sure it sinks in.

Past and Current Issues

  • Silly grammar mistakes (something I’ve overlooked)
  • Simple mistakes we catch after-the-fact
  • We have multiple contributors
  • I don’t yet have a specific system for doing a second overview – not a specific time nor way to max efficiency while I look through

PANACEA

I’m all about finding that one thing that takes care of most of the issue. That’s the 80/20 (Pareto) Principle at work for you.

After reflecting for a moment I realized that all of these issues could be solved by simple systems tweaks. Most of these issues have to do with my attention-to-detail.

I need to increase my attention-to-detail by working it into my systems.

Systems To Implement

  1. I already installed Grammarly, but I need to make it a second-nature to throw it in before sending.
  2. I need to choose a day to do my second and third looks over our final products, and then commit to those days.
  3. I need to make the platform my baby. It needs to be my instinct to check it, look over it, critique, polish, etc.
  4. I need to make my HUGE topic of study – writing. I need to learn how to write effectively in all instances. My writing needs to become versatile, concise, and valuable. I’ll make it a part of my day-to-day to do some writing learning.

What does “Pride of Ownership” mean to me?

For me to be proud of something, I have to know that it reflects me and what I’m capable of. Looking at someone’s work is like looking at their room. Are they keeping it tidy? What kinds of things occupy it? Looking at someone’s room tells you a lot about her. Likewise, looking at someone’s work tells you more than you might imagine.

I want someone to look at my work and receive an accurate representation of who I am. You should too.
